  1. Hi! Im new here and trying to find some help.

Im trying to connect my laptop to an old TV to use it as a "second monitor" but I only get a black-and-white image even though is a color television.

The laptop Im using is the HP OMEN 016 i5 2022 and the TV is a CTR Sony Triniton KV-14R10077 from 1995

Im using an HDMI TO AV ADAPTER to run an HDMI cable from the computer.
From the adapter Im running AV (RCA) cable to the back of the TV.

    To consider:
The TV only has a AV VIDEO INPUT and a RF connector.
I tried connecting the same cables with the same connections from the laptop to another CTR TV and it works! it shows the image in colors.
I tried connecting other sources of videos from HDMI, such as other laptops, a MacBook pro, and even an iPad. It only displays black-and-white images.
When a connect a VHS PLAYER directly to the TV, it shows the images in color.
I have changed the cables and even tried another HDMI TO AV adapter unsuccessfully.
I got the TV at a flea market and it came without the remote control.
Im from Chile. Here we use NTSC.

Does anybody know why this happens and how to fix it?

  2. NTSC signal incompatibility between the hdmi converter box and the TV RCA input. Try getting into the tv menu and change to a different input signal type. If memory servers me correct, there should be options for different number of input scan lines on the tv menu. There should be a menu switch at back of TV if not then you may be able to use any muti tv remote control. They all support Sony TV and the power on/off and menu signals are standard.
