When deinterlacing (with any deinterlacers and modifications from my knowledge) the quality shows these jagged lines around the outlining.

I couldn't find any solutions to this situation, and this seems really difficult to fix.
Can anyone help me out here?

idea 1:
- descale to 720x540
- handle combing and ghosting
idea 2:- separate fields
- apply QTGMC(InputType=3) on even and odd fields separately
- re-combine the fields
- descale to 720x540
- handle combing and ghosting
idea 3:- separate fields
- apply QTGMC(InputType=3) on even and odd fields separately
- re-combine the fields
- descale to 720x540
- handle combing and ghosting
- upscale it back using some anime specific resize RealCugan, Anime4K,...
idea 4: (will preserve more details)- create copy of clip (now you have clip1 and clip2)
- apply combing and ghosting on clip1
- apply 'idea 3' on clip2
- create a bold edgemask
- take clip1 and replace its edges with the edges of clip2 using the edgemask

Ps.: problem is someone messed up when upscaling the source
Pss.: applying QTGMC(InputType=3) after the combing and ghosting handling might also helpLast edited by Selur; 25th Dec 2025 at 16:07.

This looks good, but there still some jagged lines

I doubt you will get much further with conventional filtering, tweaking the settings, especially the line darkening, might help a bit.
Unless you spend time to come up with scene-by-scene filtering settings, I don't think that conventional filtering will fix all edges.
Using masking and something like BasicVSR++ or some masked anime resizer/model (https://openmodeldb.info/) might be able to fix more edges.
Something like Stable Diffusion could be used, but it probably would be way too slow (and resource intensive) to be practical.
Just to be sure you understand what I was proposing: The idea was to downscale, then upscale with ai and then copy the - hopefully fixed - lines from the ai upscaled version onto the original.ai upscaling is not a good idea for me (i want to keep the quality intact/original)
Since I won't spend time on it, I wish you much luck finding a solution.

Use tdeint with try weave=true then blur(.8).sharpen(.4) lower the values accordingly if it's too soft afterwards
if all else fails read the manual
