I am Working on an S-Video mod for a Panasonic NV-VP60GN.
As you may know this model comes with an S-Video but because Panasonic decided to be cheap it only shows video from the DVD through the S-Video.

However looking at the service manual it seems that the VCR sends pre-separated Y/C to the DVD board (for dubbing feature purposes?), going through the ribbon cable to the DVD board (Small board).

Does anyone have any advise for how I should go about finding which lines in the ribbon cable are the Y/C signals?

I have attached some pictures of the boards.

    Cheers

I have one of these. Love the big bright display!

Looking forward to hearing how you get on with your modification.

  3. As I see it
Y: PIN 11 of socket P34301 on the main board -> socket P8003 on the DVD board
C: PIN 13 of socket P34301on the main board -> socket P8003 on the DVD board

All VCR/DVD combos have a similar circuit design, the question is, would those pins carry the full amplified Y-C signal that matches the S-Video socket level or they have to be amplified further by the DVD Y-C processing chip, The only way to find out is to solder wires and try it. Keep in mind those low budget VCRs don't have TBC, any signal timing will be on the DVD processing chip side.

Yes. I would assume one has to add high impedance video buffer amplifiers for those Y and C signals with adjustable gain plus 75 Ohms resistors in series to set the levels and source impedances according S-Video interface specs.
@Brad-cage: Check the signals on these PINs with an oscilloscope with high impedance/low capacitance RF testhead if you have it.
