Earlier today I achieved a Toshiba DVR670 from a thrift store, both the VHS and DVD decks work, but there is one problem that's infuriating me.
There is no audio for VHS playback through the HDMI output. Sound is available on DVD, and on my line in signal, but for some reason it does not provide sound specifically for VHS. I cannot use the RCA jack as it frequently bugs out and does not provide any audio (probably a circuitry issue which is far beyond my skill to repair). Any help is appreciated.

Does it have video out via HDMI from VHS?

Yes, video playback on VHS is visible with the unit's HDMI output.
