VCR Repair Parts Availability

I am just wondering if it is still possible to order VCR new parts anywhere in the world.
I have a Sony VCR with 6 heads that needs servicing and I want to have a go at making it work, but I need to know if any faulty parts (mainly mechanical) can be ordered as new parts.
Also if I decide to leave it with a repair shop locally (still looking for a reliable shop), if they would replace faulty parts with new ones.
Big question is, are VCR 6 heads still being manufactured or not.
Considering the revived interest in watching VHS cassettes, will there be any new VCR machines manufactured to meet the demands?
To be honest, I think a VCP (Video Cassette Player) would be sufficient, as I doubt if anybody would want to record to VHS tapes, if all they want is to play the cassettes, whether commercial or privately made.

You would need to know what parts you actually require (service manual) and if you have never done this before you are really feeling in the dark.


No VCRs are being made and even with the apparent demand none will be.


And as for any repair establishment you would not know if the parts they use are new or simply cannibalised

I got the service manual for my Sony VCR model SLV-E1000VC, and I have a list of all the parts, but the quality isn't that good.
Is there a recommended website that sell good quality service manuals?

Thanks a lot. It is the same as the one I have, but it has searchable text which can be useful.
Still I would be happy to find and pay for original service manual, printed or high quality scanned.

Which parts specifically? You can sometimes source some parts from a 2-head mono model with the same mechanism for cheaper than what you would pay to source standalone spares.

For Europe, van eck video services also makes new replacements for a number of VCR mechanism parts that commonly break, including some for the Sony H mechanism used in this VCR:

I have a Sony SLV-E1000VP VCR that needs servicing. I just wanted to make sure that any faulty parts that needs replacement, can be ordered without a problem. Especially the video head, in case cleaning it will not help.

Head drums are very hard to find spares for so I wouldn't expect to find a replacement easily (and if you do it will probably cost a lot.), so if that part is bust you are probably better off looking for a different vcr (or another one of the same model as a spares unit).
