  1. Hello,

recently i aquired digital video camera, that records on VHS-C. Being quite amazed by it, i wanted to record some movie and upload it to youtube. But my firt problem was getting the video to PC, i managed to get the basics done and now i have problem with VirtualDub video input in capture mode.

Basically it for some reason disorts the video and i have no idea why, even tho, when i try to use OBS, the video is all right. I will atach some screens belove:

Here is some disorted footage in VirtualDub

And here is same footage in OBS, not being disorted.

So i would like to ask, what can i do to make it work in VirtualDub, or is OBS as good as VirtualDub and i should work with OBS? Thanks very much in advance.

Edit: Ive tried to look on this forum/web for simmiliar problem but could not find much. And my source is PAL.

There's an old addage that says "You get what you pay for"

This comes over as a cheap Easycap (easycrap) chinese clone

Possible that vdub can not recognise the device. What options do you have in the 'Device' menu ?

OBS is not really suited for analog video capture (although people do claim to have used it successfully). An alternative - better - option would be AmarecTV plus a lossless codec (not the codec that AmarecTV wants you to use)

Also are you using vdub (the original) or vdub2 ? The first should be used for capture.

  5. Oh i see! The addage goes even more, because i get the capture device for free from my friend. Could you recommend some decent capture device? Would prefer resonable price!

I have these options in Device menu:

OK i will try to use AmarecTV and will post any updates on my situation. Thank you very much.

I am using vdub2. In the original, i could not get any capture footage (i was checking web about this issue and it was suggesting it has to do something with Windows 10 and recomended using vdub2).

  6. There is a miscommunication between VirtualDub2 and the capture device over the frame size. Go through the VirtualDub and capture device settings and make sure they are set to the same frame size.

With jagabo's comment (and just noticing that black band on the vdub2 preview) I wonder if your source really was PAL.

See what happens if you reset your vdub2 settings for NTSC.

Are you speaking from experience, DB83? OBS has very specific, and different, input settings for screen capture and video sources such as capture cards. When you capture from a card, you are NOT capturing the screen, as some here apparently seem to think.

Well I have tried TWICE to get the fooker to capture - it does recognise my usb-live2. But there is no video preview. Sound is acknowledged.

But from what I see, and do prove me wrong, despite recognising 720*576 it wants 'capture' at 16:9 variants such as 853*480 plus, I assume de-interlacing on the fly since I saw no setting otherwise.

So turning the Q. around. Have you used it and comparably to your analog device(s) ?

    OBS captures ultra compressed.
And it is still essentially screencap. It's not using standard traditional analog capturing.

  12. Hello! Sorry for late response, ive been a bit busy.

So, ive tired your suggestions. I tried to switch between preview and overlay but nothing happend (because the screen was black regarding to new problem), plus i think i have a new problem.
As you all pointed out, my capture device is not best and lately ive had a some issues to even get it worked like in my original post.

Now in vdub it shows just black screen and in the OBS, which showed video fine, now it sometimes shows video, sometimes black screen.
So, for eliminating this avoidable element, may i ask, what capture device would you recommend? I would prefer reasonable price!

Thanks again for your comments and suggestions!!

As alluded to in my earlier post, I can only suggest what I have actually used (and still do) which is a Hauppauge USB-Live2.

Other contributors may suggest other items.

But whether these meet with you 'reasonable price' that is for you to judge.

But did you also check my other suspicion that you may actually have a NTSC camera and not a PAL one. That black bar at the bottom of the preview screen is not there for nothing.
