    As I found out the

    MPEG-4 AVC H.264 (Intel Quick Sync) video codec is only offered for MP4 as target container but not for AVI (at keast not in XMedia Recode).

    Is this correct?

    I though that video and audio codecs should be independent from video file container

    What exactly does Intel Quick Sync mean?
    Is this for usage of CPU/GPU built-in firmware feature?
    Since which Intel CPU generation is this offered?

    It is well possible that XMR offers AVC video only for containers which fully support all of its features. MP4 and MKV do; AVI does not, it was designed in an era before GOPs with B frames were developed and does not support e.g. temporal forwards references (to future video content) or multiple references for the same predicted frame.

    The MP4 container supports even less video and audio formats, only those which are specified in the MPEG standards of the respective container.
