tmpgenc, Unable to keep 16:9 ratio after converting to SVCD

I am having difficulty keeping the 16:9 ratio when I create a SVCD mpeg using tmpgenc.
    Scenario:
    - Using ATI All in wonder capture card, capturing from Dish a movie that is playing as 16:9 (source is not truely 16:9 right?)
    - Using tmpgenc I have tried different settings and I can not get the output.mpg to keep the 16:9 "look", it turns into a 4:3 or 1:1 looks that way, If I burn to SVCD and play in DVD player 16:9 ratio is lost?
Can anyone provide some feedback here?

    Thanks in advance.

    Blahh.

If you still have problem, you can use FitCD... it will help to configure your movie to the correct setings.

AFAIK, the SVCD spec does not actually support 16:9 aspect ratio. The best you can achieve then is to encode at 4:3 and let your widescreen TV stretch it back to 16:9. Using the default TmpGenc template should be sufficient for this.

    what he said.

load up the movie in FitCD and it will tell you what to resize your svcd resolution to.

Then make sure the "source" is 16:9 and select "full screen: maintain aspect ratio"
