What causes black areas to be super imposed over your handbraked video?
it's a black rectangle super imposed over the bottom right corner.
I've been using Handbrake for many years and have never had this problem before. I've tried
9.5., 9.9, and 10.5 versions. My settings are the same as they always have been.
I'm using Win 7 Home, 64 bit
Thanks!

Do you have this with all source videos or just specific ones? If it's just specific ones post a sample. Also post the log (ctrl + L) and try the nightly version.
-
I've already uploaded a screen print showing the black rectangle in the bottom right corner. So far, it's only happening with one set of videos(which don't have the black rectangle). I've downloaded the latest...HandBrake-1.0.3-x86_64-Win_GUI.exe and will try that. I will post back when I have run more tests.

Under settings enable advanced settings then it will appear
if all else fails read the manual -
Thanks for the swift responses...OK, I'm in the 'advanced tab', but I don't see any 'DXVA'. What else would it be called?
-
Ah, OK, found it...was already unchecked. I was playing the original file....with WMP there is no black rectangle, but playing the original file with VLC shows the black rectangle.
So, both the original and the handbraked video have the black rectangle when using VLC. It's only when playing the original with WMP, that there's no black rectangle.
Maybe it's something to do with my player settings? -
You can test these samples. They are as your file (mod2) + one is mod4 + one is mod8 + one is mod16.
I'd update VLC to 2.2.5.1 and if that doesn't work to 3.0 nightly. If those have the same problem: update GPU drivers and restart. If still doesn't work reset VLC settings. Try to deactivate hardware decoding and try a different video renderer. -
In trying to change some ffdshow settings, I made my WMP unworkable. After 5 hours of downloading new versions of WMP, CCCP/Haali/LAV codecs, I was able to get WMP working again.
And now it plays the Handbraked videos that used to have the black rectangle, with no black rectangle.
So, I guess it was a player issue, and not a Handbrake issue.
The only thing(this will probably need to be posted in another forum), is that my videos now, with the new codecs, have a noticeable 'after-image' on moving objects/people. Someone moves, and an outline of where they were lingers a few seconds. I've tried using hardware acceleration(I have a Nvidia card) using 25/30 fps, and 50/60fps, and without hardware acceleration.
The videos actually have worse 'after-image' using hardware acceleration.
So, watching videos with hardware acceleration turned off, is watchable, but there's more 'after-image' than there was using ffdshow.
I'm just concerned that re-installing ffdshow will screw up my working WMP -
Perhaps GraphStudio could be useful to exam the system (directshow) codecs that are in use when the file is rendered
Certainly installing all those codec packs without know what you're doing doesn't help the issue
The best place to start is use mediainfo in text mode to to see the file requirements codec-wise
Then perhaps Lav filters or FFdshow/haali should be good enough. -
Thanks for the swift response. I had CCCP, FFdshow and Haali before(I'm more-or-less sure that I didn't have LAV), and everything worked fine(until that black rectangle showed up).
I'll watch more videos and decide if I want to chance installing FFdshow. I'll post back in a few days with the results. Thanks for all your help....5 Gold Stars!!!! -
ffdshow hasn't been updated for years. Old CCCP was basically a package of MPC(-HC) + Haali + ffdshow. "Recent" CCCP is MPC-HC + external LAV. I put "recent" in quotes because that's how it's been for years and CCCP is dying as well.
I don't know about the "after image" you see. If ffdshow is used make sure you don't have any of its filters activated. Make sure no de-interlacing is forced in LAV Video. Make sure all "Video Enhancements" in the GPU driver settings (Catalyst Control Center?) are deactivated.
Your posts are confusing. -
The "after-image" is probably the result of a noise reduction filter somewhere along the decompression/display chain. Go to your player's, codec's, and graphics card's setup applet and turn off all noise reduction, automatic gain, automatic color, sharpening, etc. filters.
