  1. Hello. I usually Google my problems and try to fix them but nothing i have tried seemed to work. The problem is that i get these weird artifacts that seem to appear in dark areas of videos. i tried using different video players tried different codec packs i re installed my display driver i checked different videos but they still seem to appear i tried using a HDD plugged into my tv and playing the same file and it looks great and also on my galaxy s3 and it looks great but when i use my laptop it happens i even tried plugging it to my tv with an hdmi its look really bad like these block like and vertical line artifacts.
i appreciate any help i am honestly stumped

    i added some samples.

Video simply do not compress well when dark. H.264 or MPEG-2.
I have this is many commercial DVDs, and those are often using very high-grade hardware.
Aside from using more bitrate, not much can be done.

Also make sure the TV/monitor isn't turned too bright.

Downloaded tv rips usually have low bitrates so there's nothing you can do unless you buy the retail version.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

The most common issue is someone turning to brightness too high.
    That needed to be repeated.

i understand that but it just seems much more noticeable on my laptop compared to my other devices. is there something i can do to make less visible other than brightness.

  7. putting the brightness on low doesn't seem to make a big difference i guess i just have to deal with it but what i dont understand is in a different laptop or my tv using a HDD the artifacts are there but much much less noticeable compared to my laptop even when the laptop is connected to the tv with an hdmi vs hdd is much different. i added the mediainfo for the 2 files in the screenshot.

  9. Which media player are you using? Try changing the setting of your video card for displaying video to see if that helps. If when using your laptop, video appears to have less contrast or looks "washed out", it could be a levels issue. As PCs and "normal video" (and TVs) use a slightly different range of levels, even when connecting a PC to a TV you need to ensure they match. My TV has a setting to change the input level, but not all do.

Nvidia Control Panel (I'm using XP if it makes a a difference):

PS. If the laptop's using the Intel graphics then the above Nvidia thing won't help anyway. I don't really know how laptops with both Intel and third party video work.

  10. Your videos are over compressed and the black level on your monitor or graphics card is too high.
