  1. racer-x, do you know how you can increase the speed exponentially? I noticed when using the vplay start 100 and end e.g. 200, it does not do anything. Tried all the options under vplay but none did anything. I know you can speed it up with the start values only, but that is not what i need, i want it to go faster and faster and faster untill the end .

If you want me to ask this question in the general tips thread (where i looked for this answer already), please say so and I will move it there.

    Cheers.

Add a time control object to the timeline (right click on the adv. editing timeline, new media object => time control) . Those parameters are "keyframable" and you can specify the number of target layers below that are affected

Thanks, I'll give it a go

    Update:
Tried it for about an hour, does not do me any good, or I am not doing it right.
Put the time layer on top of the testmovie, made sure it was included under it.

It seems to act like a timelapse where you can skip to a certain frame, however i do not see the length of the video changing so I'm not sure how it can go faster. If it goes faster, it should decrease the time the video takes like with vPlay, correct?

Is there no manual available where it explains some basics like this? I'd like to know what certain icons mean as well, since clicking them did not enlighten me a lot
(like the camera icon on the upper left corner inside video editing (i do understand the clipping mask). I'll go read up on the 22 page long other thread...

No english manual... there are a lot of things you just fiddle with and figure out. Most english users are probably just scratching the surface. The LUA scripting looks very versatile for example but I don't know how to use it

Anyways you nest the accelerated scene back into the root scene

e.g In scene 1 you put your time control object with the layer that you want to "speed" up . Set the position parameter to "acceleration" tweening. When set to "acceleration" it will speed up the decimation instead of a linear rate. Set a position "midpoint" (ie. "keyframe") on the time control layer , somewhere on the layer, with it set from 0-100 (ie. all frames included) . Slide the midpoint (keyframe) marker down until you get what you want . The 1st part will be a repeated 1st frame until the "midpoint", but the "2nd half" will be time compressed / sped up according to the interpolation parameters set, and where you slide the marker. The more to the right, the faster the speed (more frames dropped). So back in the root scene, you trim off those repeated frames from your nested scene 1 and reposition the layer where you want . There might be a graphical curve control using a spline (in one of the interpolation options there is a bezier option), but I'm not sure how to use it . There are also free 3rd party speed control options with curves/graphs for control (e.g. slomovideo) where you can ramp up /down with complete control . There are commercial options as well, but I won't go into those here

Here is a quick ScreenCast tut on how to use TimeControl with Midpoints. My Aviutl may look a little funny because I'm running it in Linux. Right-Click to add MidPoints (aka key-frames).

  6. Thanks both.

Anyone care to tell me how to add these 3rd party options? I tried to install the sand effect last time and that does not show up anywhere either:/

Put them in the script folder

Apply the "animation effect" filter, and in the drop down menu "sand2" should be in the list

I did that, let me check if it is there. I checked the regular effects list....

    Yup, i see it now.
(Damn I did not even notice the enormous list of animations and was trying to make ones that are already there)

    Thanks.

  9. One more thing I just cannot find anywhere in the settings: can you change the background from black to another color? Or do you have to place an image there with the color?

Did you mean the preview, or actual background ?

The actual background is not really "black", it's "transparent" . It just looks like "black" in the preview because a monitor cannot really show "transparent" - you can't "see" it Other programs like after effects, photoshop etc... can toggle a transparency grid but I don't think aviutl has that. But it's simple enough to make your own

You import an image or video BG, or you can generate a BG within aviutl as well . If you wanted a solid color , right click on the adv editing timeline => new media object => graphic => set the settings to "background" and select the color
