If I were to do this in Virtualdub, I would use the ffmpeg input driver. However you'll always end up re-encoding with Virtualdub. To each their own.
I will d/l and look at XmediaRecode today.
I have it going but I couldn't help but notice that the video image is postage-stamp size inside the video window. I did not see a way to get the image to fill the video window through the buttons and whatnot.

  2. Set MediaInfo to View -> Text mode. Make sure it shows the Format:Matroska in the General section. What does it say about Format in the Video section?

I'll get this tomorrow. I know that Handbrake defaults to MP4 as the file type in the
Matroska container-- another confusion. But I'll do your check shortly and afterward may be just starting over. And there's always MKVmerge as a fallback.

I've attached the text of the media info so that some miscommunication doesn't occur.

In the General it shows Matroska specified.
In Video what I see is an MPEG-4.

  6. Are you running 64 bit VirtualDub? The 64 bit MKV plugin will not work with 32 bit VirtualDub. And vice versa. I recommend you use 32 bit VirtualDub. Many 3rd VirtualDub filters are not available in 64 bit versions.

  7. AVI Demux was mentioned earlier with a graphic aid for making the file edit.

I currently have AVI Demux loaded with another job wherein I want load an AVI video
and put in an Ogg VCorbis sound track I built which is the same length. It's a process I do
    with other formats.

But I'm not sure what AVI Demux is doing. I have gone to this because one of the Virtual Dubs-- Virtual Dub Mod which shows the stream lists did the remux action but had no sound.

If I need a fresh thread I can make one. AVI Demux can use an Ogg file. But how is it entered and replaced in the AVI? I'm looking at it but what it looks like is AVI Demux can
make an output file _as_ Ogg just in it's program. Enlighten me where my error is.

This is a whole different operation of cutting and editing.
