I bought my Pioneer DVR-104 from ESBuy, so for my media, they gave me 1 DVD-R and 1 DVD-RW ESBuy medias. The installation and everything went great! Nero read both my DVD burner and my CD-Rewriter fine.
The problem came when i was burning in ISO mode with DVD Decrypter. I ripped a single layer movie with DVD Decrypter and wanted to do a practice run using the RW media that ESBuy gave me. The first time i was burning, it got to 53% and then my burner stopped!?? And read "busy" in DVD Decrypter. I then tried playing the movie using PowerDVD and that went fine for 50minutes of the movie and then it stopped and gave me a message box saying that it couldn't play anymore because the disk may be damaged or corrupted. Then i used Nero to do a full erase on the disk, so i could try it again. This time i got through the "read buffer" stage and then it wouldn't write at all?

So what do you guys think i should do here in this situation? It can't be the filze size because it was only 4.07GB. I read somewhere that you're supposed to do an erase procedure first before you burn with a RW? I can't see what happened here though?? Im starting to think it was just cheap media.

Hello, I had similar problems in Nero (stopped writing on DVD-R around 99% or 65%) and DVD Decrypter (stopped writing on Pioneer DVD-RW media at 10%). The problem is not media because I used the same DVD-R discs I used before that for 2 months without problme and also I used a Pioneer DVD-RW (speaking about cheap media) that I used before that 10 times. In both cases the Pioneer A04 DVD-R tray was locked, the led off, I got no error message and the OS was almost frozen. This problem appeared randomly without any apparent reason in both Windows XP and 2000. I reinstalled both operating system and I burned cca 5 DVD-R since without problem. I still don't know if it was a software issue or a hardware problem with the Pioneer. If its a hardware issue then the problem will reappear. have the feeling that the problem appeared after I installed SP3 for Windows 2000 and in Windows Xp a beta version of Windows Media Player 9. Now my Windows 2000 is upgraded up to SP2 and I will avoid if possible to upgrade XP to SP1 or a newer version of Window Media Player. If this freezing problem is gone forever then the reason was something in the configuration of my OS's, if not then I try to return the Pineer for repair because seems to be the only thing left to do.
I also read in the forums about some incompatibility issues between Pioneer A04 and VIA chipsets. Is not my case sice I have Intel chipsets but maybe the thing applies to you.
Good luck and let me know if you resolved the problem and how.
    Hope this helped....

Oh boy, it has started! I just made my first coaster!
I don't even know if im doing this crap right anymore.

This time i used Nero to try and burn the ISO file. I set it to burn as UDF/ISO, but when i dragged the ISO file over, Nero said it was over 2GB and to use UDF. So i changed it to UDF and Nero started burning, and then bam! Stops at 1% It said the connection failed.
Let me tell you guys what my process was, cause maybe im totally doing something wrong.

1.Ripped in ISO mode with DVD Decrypter
2.After ripping, i was left with a large ISO file(4.07GB)
3.I used ISO mode to write
4.This is where i go wrong and everything messes up

So what am i doing wrong here? Am i missing a step?

P.S. My Primary IDE channel is set to DMA if available and current transfer mode is PIO mode. My secondary IDE channel is set to DMA if available and current transfer mode is Ultra DMA mode 2.
Should i be changing anything here or going into BIOS and changing anything? Someone, anyone, PLEASE HELP!!

By the way...weispino, i upgraded to Windows Media 9 and it is crap! I hope that it is not giving me these problems!!? I doubt it though.

  4. I had a similar problem with my system. I had to change my Pioneer to use PIO (instead on UDMA Mode 2). This fixed the communication error in Nero. I'm not sure why are making a ISO file to burn in Nero though. Just burn the direct files (ifos', vob's, etc) and put them in the VIDEO_TS folder.

I wonder why your primary channel (which I assume has your hard drive) is running in PIO mode?

Thanks for replying EnemyWithin. I honstly have no clue why it's in PIO mode? Everything it is set to now, was the default after i installed the Pioneer drive. That's why im thinking i might have to go into BIOS and change something? But i wouldn't know what to change?

So you're saying i should try setting my Pioneer drive to PIO mode instead? I thought it was a good thing to have it in UltraDMA Mode? Who knows, but i'll give it a try.

    Thanks-M

Figured i would edit this instead of making a new thread.
Ok, i have the VIDEO_TS folder with all the VOB's and BUP's and IFO's in it. I now opened Nero and started dragging all the files into the VIDEO_TS folder. I read that the files are supposed to be in the same order as the origional folder. However Nero seems to be making their own arrangement for the files and will NOT let me change the order. I have the latest Nero release. The only thing i can think of now, is that Nero has become like Prassi Primo and will not allow you to mess up and fix everything for you, so all you have to do is burn.

Now when i click burn this is what Nero says:
"WARNING You are about to create a multi-sessionwrite once DVD disc. Session no.2 and above will not be readable with some DVD-Rom drives and operating systems prior to Windows XP."
    My Options are:
    1.Burn Multi-session anyways
    2.Burn w/out multi-session
    3.Cancel

Im so stumped with this DVD burning stuff. I have read just about every guide on the net too!

  6. You should not burn the dvd as multisession if you want to use it in a stand-alone player. Never tried it, but I doubt it will work. To fix is easy, when selecting the new project, dvd (video), on the multisession tab just check the box that says no multisession and this should fix your problem. You can also do this when you go to write the cd. As for the 53% problem, can't help you there... good luck.
