when encoding using TMPGenc a perfect avi file when changed to mpeg results in periodic colour distortion and blocky pictures.
Is there anything Ishould do before starting encoding

Start by making sure you don't have the SMR (Angel portion) codec installed, if you do get rid of it. Install the Nimo codec pack.
Then in TMPGEnc
Select options > environmental settings
click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4
Before you start, click the load button and load a VCD template. -
Just tried this but I also get the blocky pictures and color distortion .. any other ideas?

check the framerate in the avi first.. you may have one thats at like 20 fps. then open TMPenc and close the wizard.. click on browse and load up your movie, then click settings and you'll see the framerate, you can change it there.. this worked for me.Originally Posted by jondi

Its the framerate.. the original was 20 fps, it converted to mpg at 60 fps. This is the problem, so once I saw this I changed the framerate on the mpg conversion to 19.98 and volia it now works fine

Then why are you changing anything ?, once you load a VCD template there is nothing to change

If I didnt change the template (like I did orginally) the mpg comes out distorted and blocky colours appear on the mpg. This is what I said in my original post..
So when I close the template and just change the frameratem the mpg comes out perfect. You NEED to change the framerate with this avi I had..
