  1. On one avi file I have seen, the picture becomes distorted with wavy lines when there is movement in the video.
    A bit like can be seen in this .jpg screen capture, of the man in the white shirt who is walking on the right-hand side of the picture: http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/6053/wavylines.jpg
    Can this be removed?
    Someone suggested using the deinterlace filter in Virtualdub, I tried this but the resultant .avi didn't seem any better.

    Nope. The video is ruined. It was once interlaced, and then badly resized by someone who did not know what they were doing. The damage is done, and cannot be undone.
