ok. ya i see that the new one can. I just don't want to have to buy ANOTHER blu ray player. and we've had this one for a couple years now and it's still great. just wanted to try get away from having to purchase another one.
i couldn't find any info on running it through our current on either....i'm lost! I know that LG has one that works as my brother has it and has the same external hard drive and it works, again, wanted to try get away with not having to purchase another one.......
You need a different Blu-Ray player to play video files from a USB stick or HDD. According to the manual, none of the USB ports are intended for playing video.

The manual indicates the front port is reserved for viewing photos on a compatible USB device.

The manual also says the rear port is used for accessing BD-Live conent. This requires the appropriate files to be downloaded from the Internet and copied to a USB flash drive, which is then inserted in the rear USB port. However the player needs to be connected to your home network for this to worK because video is streamed from the internet, not played from the USB stick. In addition, the manual specifically says not to connect anything other than a FAT-16/FAT-32 formatted USB flash drive to the rear port, which rules out reading files from an HDD.

Hint: If a product you buy has a PDF manual available, download it. It is much easier to search for information in a PDF manual than a printed one.

I have a LG blu ray player (7 momnths old) and i've been able to put in my 4gb usb stick in the front and play avi movies on it. I recently bought a portable hard drive and put my movies on it and now the hard drive won't even get recognised. Is there a way to fix it or will it just not work?

Just to clarify, most external usb hard drives wont work when there connected to a stand alone Blu-Ray player, the older type which had there own dedicated power supply will work, but the newer slim line and which use usb 2 and power off the usb port wont. NTFS format is seen on mine and works perfectly via a memory stick so files above 4 gig can be viewed with ease. Ive e-mailed Sony which is the make of my Blu-Ray player to see if any external usb drives are actually supported by my model. Hope this clears a few things up bye for now

BD players are not built to give access to other storage devices, exception maybe are usb sticks.

  6. Hello! I have Blu-Ray Player Sony bdp-sx1000.
It supports many formats, including mkv.
That surprised, flash card support 64Gb formatted in NTFS!!! Surely Primary disk!!!
I hope 128Gb and above will support also.

I try to connect an external hard disk 750Gb also.
    While unsuccessfully.
Even with connection through Y-Usb a cable for additional power supply 5V, 1А, the disk isn't defined and clicks.
Here therefore it is interesting. The smaller volume can it will turn out to connect or except USB flash card it will be possible nothing?
