After burning a movie my pc will not play it. Whatever player I try and use (vlc, wmp, mpclassic, etc) it pops up a window with the 'please insert a disk' message. These discs play fine on all the stand-alone players in our house, including our blu-ray player. However, the pc will play all my factory discs. Ideas?

    -thnx.

try again but use imgburn (it's free and the best burning soft out there) to write the dvdr. you probably used the wrong file system on the bad disc.

Are you using WinME, as your computer details indicate? You might have burned the disc correctly, especially if you were using Imgburn, but your system may not have anything installed to allow you to read UDF format discs.

    Thnx for replies -

I have updated my sys specs (sorry) :

    Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5300@2.60 GHz
    RAM 6 GB
    HDD 600 GB

... and I used ConvertXtoDVD 4 to create the Video_TS files and burn. As before, they work great on our stand-alones.

dvd movies need to be burned as iso/udf hybrids to work on everything. have convertx only make the video folders and use imgburn to make the discs.

What media are you using? Are other data discs created with the same media readable on the system?

(Is it possible to create an ISO or other disc image within ConvertX2DVD, with which you could experiment with test-burning it using Imgburn?)

Does the disc read properly in any other computer? (Just in case it may potentially be a CD/DVD/BD drive issue...)

New project finished - issue remains.

Played disc on another computer and it works there.

    Crap!

Went to Device Manager and uninstalled DVD.

    Re-boot computer.

    Disc works now!?!?

    Man! Why does this happen?????????
