I have been using a Kworld card on my old computer.
It doesn't seem to work with my new computer - Windows 7 Professional.
Looking for suggestions for a reasonably priced card to use with Media Ctr to record to hdd.
Any advice appreciated.

Do you need an analog tuner (for analog cable) or a digital tuner (for use with an antenna or clear QAM cable channels)?

[Edit] Also, what kinds of interfaces do you have available for installing the new tuner? USB 2.0? PCI? PCI-e?Last edited by usually_quiet; 15th May 2012 at 18:32.

I have a digital tv and only over-the-air antenna.
My computer specs are next to my name.

I'll try to give you any other info if you need it.

 (4 pci slots)

The motherboard included in that kit has 5 PCI-e expansion slots and two PCI expansion slots. I will assume you still have an open PCI-e slot.

I have had an AVerMedia HD Duet White Box installed since September of last year. http://www.amazon.com/Avertv-MTVHDDUWB-Duet-White-Box/dp/B00266P6G4

The first one died after a month, and I RMA'ed it to AVerMedia. Customer support was OK to deal with. The replacement they sent has been going strong since November. The tuners are good for a PC TV card and having two is convenient. It works well with Windows 7's Media Center. Since it doesn't come with (or work with) AVerMedia Center and doesn't include a remote, the White Box version is less expensive than the retail version.

If you only need one tuner, the AVerMedia AVerTVHD Bravo costs a little less.

Either download drivers from AVerMedia's website or let Windows 7 find them. These two TV cards only provide ATSC/clear QAM tuning. There is no analog tuner and there are no analog capture ports.Last edited by usually_quiet; 16th May 2012 at 00:19.

Can you explain the difference between the PCI -E and PCI?

 Thanks

PCI is older and provides less bandwidth than PCI-e. Wikipedia can explain the technological details better than I can.

Your motherboard manual should have a diagram showing which expansion slots are which. The TV cards I suggested are PCI-e x1, but should work in any of the other types of PCI-e expansion slots found on your motherboard.

If you don't need analog at all, and have a home network, the Silicondust HDHomerun gets a lot of good reviews, and the tuners can be shared by other computers on the network running Windows 7. http://www.amazon.com/SiliconDust-HDHomeRun-Definition-Television-HDHR3-US/dp/B004HO58SO

The Hauppauge WinTV HVR-2250 is another good dual tuner option with analog support.

This unit seems nice, although I would have preferred an internal card.

 Thanks for the advice.
