  1. I am having trouble in the cutting of an mpeg with TMPG. When I add the clip to the list and click edit, the file is nothing but constant gray, it won't play, etc. The clips plays in players, but TMPG won't edit it. I have had much success before using this program.

    Anybody know an answer?

    Thanks

It usually means that your mpeg file is corrupted (I have often experienced that a corrupted file will still play). The best thing to do is firstly use the MPEG Corrector (downloadable in the tools section) on your mpeg file. Then try again.
If this still doesn't help - try to de-multiplex and then (re- )multiplex in TMPGEnc and renaming the file.
Still no luck (this is the last chance I know of) :Open MPEG Tools in TMPGEnc, add the mpeg and press "correct" and start and of course using a different name for the output file and defining your stream time with the pull-down menu at the top.

The only thing I can think of (usually one of the above works for me) otherwise is to split the file as described above and re-encode it. It should be pretty fast as it's already in the correct format. Should TMPGEnc stop (bad frame for example) at least you know then where it is, and can encode the faulty mpeg into 2 parts by using the "setting">>"advanced">>"source range" facility.

    Good luck
