  1. I have downloaded a Divx file with a .AVI extension. It plays fine using Divx Player 2.0 alpha but I'd like to convert it to VCD or SVCD using TMPGEnc 2.57.41. When setting the source range (to split the file), it shows just a black screen plus the audio track. I've done this successfully with a number of other .AVI Divx files but can't get this one to display.

Any ideas what settings / codecs etc.. that might get it working ? As far as I know, I have codecs 3.11alpha, 4.12 & 5.02.

    Thanks,
    Tony

Some of the newer DivX files coming around are using extra components to futher compress the files, or to increase frame rate while decreasing file size. For example, I'm a fan of SpongeBob and The Simpsons. However, most of the files I have use an unstandard DivX compression algorithm that TMPGEnc refuses to read. The SpongeBob episodes even use WMA for the audio rather than MP3.

To fix my problem, I simply used LSX-MPEG Encoder 3.5 to grab the video and then I ran VBub to create the .wav audio. Then I multiplexed the files together. You should give it a try. It can't hurt.

  3. Why don't you try and encode the whole movie at one time and then split the movie into burnable size after it is encoded. that is the way I do it. The encoding process takes a long time but it dosn't take mutch time to cut the film using mpeg tools

Download and install the Nimo codec pack, make sure you have the correct codec.

    TMPGENC.
    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4
