  1. I just bought the DVD Rio and it is the first one that I have run into recently that even my computer is not recognizing as a playable DVD. It appears to work fine in my settop DVD player, but not on my computer.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

How about telling us what you've tried so far?

Let me guess - DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter and RipItForMe. They have always worked in the past and you can't work out why they should suddenly stop ?

Rio is distributed by Fox and in the past they have not been as bad as some other studios in terms of putting extra copy protection stuff on discs. However, Rio is a recent release and they may have changed. You're probably going to need to use a commercial ripper like AnyDVD or DVDFab to be able to rip this. However, if you can wait about 6 months the free version of DVDFab should be updated to be able to rip it (the free one trails the commercial one by about 6 months).

It could also be simply that your drive is going bad, especially if it's a few years old. They don't last forever.

  5. You make an excellent point Hech54, I was a bit short on that description. I was a bit surprised when I wrote the post. I have tried DVDShrink and DVDFab, the latet registered version not the beta. What threw me this time, which I cannot say that I have seen before, even Windows Explorer does not read a label on the disk, nor see the files.

  6. Onedrink, that sounds like a good alternative, except it does not address the issue I address when I backup my DVDs. Generally I will use DVDFab to just burn the movie so that my neice can just put it in and play, rather than fight with the menus and junk leading DVDs now.

Have you tried it on another computer/dvd drive?

Follow Baldrick's device because, as I said, your drive may be going bad.

  10. I have tried 2 drives on my computer and was able to use one of them to read and backup another DVD at the same time. I will check my other computers around the house for another DVD burner that I can test with.

  11. So far, it looks like it is the drives on my computer, both of them. I was able to put the DVD into another computer and rip the disk. I am not sure what is different about that disk from all the others, but it is the only one, so far, that I have run into that my drives could not read.

Thank you everyone for your guidance. I am not normally this much of a noob, but they got me this time.
