Hi
A friend of mine recently gave me an hdd enclosure which I am planning to use to encase a 160 GB hd which I am planning to buy.
The model # of the enclosure is WD400B005-RNN. I did a quick google search and I think its used for a 40GB hd.
What Im wondering is if I can use the enclosure with the drive Im planning to buy.
Thanks.

I think the enclosure is for an IDE drive. Make sure the 160 GB drive is also IDE, not SATA.

I couldn't find anything on it via Google, but if it is specified for 40gigs its got to be old. I don't think SATA 40 gig drives are even made by anyone any more, too small. So Jagabo is probably right, its for an old IDE drive.

Yeah the enclosure is made for IDE drives and the hd Im looking to buy is an IDE drive.
Thanks for the help! -
The WD400B005-RNN was an external hard drive proper, not just an enclosure. That's why you're seeing 40 GB mentioned. I doubt there's a size limit to the enclosure it came in. If it's definitely user-serviceable, any IDE drive should work.
