I hope i have put this in the right forum.
Hi, I have a nameless DVR that is connected to 4 camera's.
There are 2 sockets at the back one is "Video Output" BNC and the other is VGA.
I would like to connect this to my lcd tv.
How can I do this?
I'm not a technical person so please describe what the lead may look like.
Also if i was to ever record something something from the DVR onto a disc, i will need to do this via my laptop. so what lead would i need to connect the Laptop to the TV? (hdmi?)
Thank You.

I'd guess the BNC output from the DVR is composite video (CVBS), rather than RF modulated video - but you'd need to check the manual to confirm that.
The VGA output could potentially give a better picture quality, but the available inputs on your TV might be the deciding factor on which socket you end up using.
It'd be helpful to know the model/manufacturer of the DVR and LCD TV. It sounds like you've got a CCTV based DVR, is this the case?
If you can see a VGA input on the back of your TV, you could probably use a standard VGA cable:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-HDDB15-Monitor-Signal-Replacement/dp/B0000DG4VY/ref=sr_...8612143&sr=8-1
If your TV doesn't have a VGA socket, you could use a BNC to RCA adapter like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adaptor-BNC-plug-RCA-socket/dp/B0012IKBSU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&q...8612591&sr=8-2
then connect that to an RCA to SCART adapter:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Phono-SCART-Switchable-cable/dp/B00006JCXU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=...8612653&sr=8-2
which would plug into the SCART input of your TV.

- If you wanted to use your laptop to record the video off the DVR, you'd need a video capture device. IMO, this would be significantly more complex compared to the first option.Last edited by intracube; 20th Jun 2011 at 18:56.

- The easiest way to transfer video to a [DVD-Video] disc would be to connect this CCTV DVR (?) to a regular DVR with an integrated DVD burner.

You'd plug the yellow plug into the 'BNC to RCA' adapter - see image (1). (The white and red plugs are for audio and can be ignored.)
and if possibly where to by it from.

*make sure any SCART adapter you buy is switchable in/out, and have it set to 'in' for your setup.
I found the spec. of your TV here:

It looks like your TV also has RCA video input. If you can see a RCA socket labelled as 'Video Input' on the back, you could substitute the SCART adapter for a simple male to male RCA cable - see image (2):
http://www.amazon.co.uk/VASI4KO-Single-Phono-Cable-Composite/dp/B004M640C2/ref=sr_1_1?...8678657&sr=8-1
Just to say; the Amazon links I've posted are for illustrative purposes. I'm not endorsing the Amazon Marketplace sellers or the products. Indeed there's quite a few comments saying the build quality of the Hama SCART adapter isn't great. I'd pay a bit more for a quality adapter, and check for positive buyer reviews.
I'm going to have to buy a TV and the most likely thing will be trying to connect DVR to the SCART due to using the VGA with the PC. The TV i got at the moment is a Polaroid TLU-43243-B.
A VGA socket on a typical PC/laptop is going to be for connecting the PC to a monitor only - computer >> display
You wouldn't be able to plug the DVR into your computer via the computer's VGA socket - you'd need a video capture device. Some PC graphics cards have video capture capability, but the inputs are usually RCA (composite) or S-Video - not VGA. -
This cable is a much simpler solution:

(Phono is just another name for an RCA connector)
