I have Realtex audio card. Windows XP But can't get the speakers to mute when I plug in headphones. Auidio card is old.
I have found lots of same problem on Google. But no help.

Muting the speakers when the headphones are plugged in is a function of the phone socket itself on the card. When the plug is inserted, it switches the signal to the phones and mutes the speaker output. You need a special jack for that.
But you might find a external switch box that would work for you. Or install a audio card that does have a switching socket.
