I need to have my text over a background and fade in and out the text. i made the text transparent and that worked great but I can not get any of the transitions to work with this setup. I need to know how to do this without the transitions. Thanks in advance.

Place the transparent text on a video overlay track (e.g. Video 1).
Then use the alpha channel (transparancy) to make the fade the same way as you would do an audio fade...Should work, I've done this many times myself..
