If you could choose one between a Plasma or LCD, what would it be?
42" Plasma 720p with 600hz
42" LCD 1080p with 60hz
My best friend works at Best Buy and said he would choose a Plasma over an LCD any day.

Depends:
- Connecting to pc? The 1080 of the LCD is preferred for 4x the desktop area.
- Bright room/lots of light? The LCD will probably be better for any anti-glare and it's brightness.
- Play games? Go LCD for low lag and being careful of (but not afraid of) burn-in.
- Watch alot of SD channels? Plasma usual has the better picture.
- Watch alot of sports? Plasma is better here (though I have no problems with my LCD)
Have a good one,
neomaine

I wont be using it as a monitor and I don't play games. It's mainly for everyday tv use, movies, sports.

Go LCD.
Many of them have various filters to clean up video -- something not found on most plasma sets.
Plasma sets are also usually shiny, with mirror glare. Yuck.

I got a LCD, but chose by going out and actually looking at them.

You won't be able to provide any documentation or research that verifies such a claim -- and I don't mean blogs or forum posts. I had to do a rather in-depth bit of research on displays about 6 months ago, from scholarly sources, and most of the dogma out there is complete baloney compared to current science.
It was true about 5+ years ago -- but not now.
Most of the claims against viewing angle and black levels are a statement about the manufacturer, and not the tech. There's quite a few plasma sets with miserable and muddy quality out there, as well as LCD sets that can capture the entire gamut of color.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Yes, just like the total BS numbers Manufactures give out for their own marketing numbers. Made up numbers because there are no true standards for testing.
I'll trust the people that professional tune TVs. They write perfect accurate reviews and blogs about TVs.
Like I said, Plasma beats LCD in black and angles, and it's a toss-up with LED because of the local dimming.
You gave your opinion and I gave mine. I'll leave it at that -
I'd like to find a 1080p LCD with 120Hz during the sales weekend at a decent price.
Would there even be a significant change from the 60hz to the 120hz?
When they first started making faster LCD processors the change was not great. -
There is a noticeable difference between my 60hz 42" Samsung 5 Series and my 120hz 46" Samsung 6 Series. While not enough to be a dealbreaker for the average viewer, the fakeness on certain high-motion programming is quite noticeable to me. Good enough for people who aren't as picky as I am, probably.
Right now, Best Buy is running a sweet deal on a 46" Samsung 6 Series... 120hz... 1080P... 4 HDMI inputs... 797.00.
Ridiculous... considering I paid 1800.00 for mine. Ridiculous, because I'm jealous.
Oh... all of these are are LCD.
Blacks look fine on my 6 series. I couldn't be happier. I'm so glad my wife talked me in to taking back the 55" Sony Grand Vega TV (rear projection LCD). You had to sit directly in front of it for a decent picture. Not to mention, it was 2500.00!
