H264 in MPEG2-PS

Is there a way I can encode a AVID DNxHD or Quicktime Ref into a H264 compression inside MPEG2-Program Stream?

I tried TMPGEnc, but it does not give me an option. Are there any other software that can do this. I am willing to burn some cash on this if I do get a stable working program.

why? there are better , more standard containers . You're asking for compatibility problems with other programs

You're certain a program stream (mpeg-ps) was requested, not a transport stream (mpeg-ts) ? This is very unusual

can a program stream be inside a m2ts? I want only a program stream.... the ones I have been able to get through tsmuxer have had both which is causing the problem

No it can't. m2ts is a transport stream

In mainconcept encoder I have been able to extract an H264 MPEG-TS with AC-3 audio as needed.

So from what I understand this is MPEG Transport Stream and not exactly MPEG2-TS....

do i need to have .m2ts filename to make it a MPEG 2 Transport Stream?

Your comments don't make any sense.

If you extract video & audio, the will be elementary streams, not MPEG-TS (i.e. you will have .avc or .264 video and .ac3 audio , and no container)

If you've extracted them, there is NO transport stream or program stream

If you have wrapped into .m2ts, then it is wrapped into a MPEG2-Transport Stream

by extracted i meant encoded. So in mainconcept encoder I imported an AVID DNxHD file. Chose H264 preset. As target I chose MPEG Transport Stream and Dolby Digital Professional (AC-3). The encoded file is outputted as .mpg

If you've selected TS, it should be a MPEG2-TS (i.e transport stream) , but for some reason mainconcept reference uses .mpg extension for TRANSPORT streams (this is unconventional). There is an option for PROGRAM stream as well, but it also exports .mpg file extension. You can open the exports in mediainfo (view=>text) and it will identify if it is a TS or PS

By convention:

.mpg, .mpeg = MPEG2 PROGRAM stream

.ts, .mts, .m2ts = MPEG2 TRANSPORT stream

Yes it is. The extension is unconventional , and may cause issues with some programs who would expect Programs streams

But you were looking for Program stream weren't you ?

i just renamed one of the mpg to m2ts and it played back fine in VLC. So lets hope that this works. Thanks a lot for your help and I will let you know how it went.

That doesn't indicate anything.

VLC can playback almost anything, even some broken streams

You could rename the extension to ".dog" or ".house" and it would still play it

The problem is other programs which have source filters or splitters that rely on the proper extension

But you haven't provided any other information on your requirements or what the problem is
