    I can never get wma conversion to mp3 (or wav) to work correctly. I always end up with an mp3 which is shorter in length then wmv. I've tried several applications: dbpoweramp converter, xilisoft converter. What am I doing wrong?

    Suggestion:

    1) convert the problematic .WMA to a LOSSLESS .WMA ;

    2) use the CLI-application "wmal2pcm.exe" and convert the lossless .WMA to a correct .WAV file ;

    3) compress the .WAV with your favorite MP3 encoder .

    Used several softwares and Lossless wma came out to 33 minutes whereas original wma was 36 minutes. Stumped.

    Windows Media Encoder 9 or WMVmuxer should have worked corretly.
    If they didn't, well I really don't know what to do next.

    BTW, HOW are you measuring the playing times of your WMA files

    And last but not least, let's not forget to thank Microsoft,
    for making lots of people believe that audio formats with variable frame size
    (such as WMA and Ogg Vorbis)
    are the greatest idea since the invention of sliced bread. ¬¬

    Windows Media Stream Editor demuxed wma correctly but lossless wma does not convert to original length. (Using Windows and tags and WMP to measure length of the clips.) I used Xilisoft and DBPoweramp Converter for wma to lossless wma. Original demuxed wma tag says "92% compressed". wav directly from original wma and lossless wma comes out to 0% compressed but still 33 minutes.

    Yes, Microsoft has made audio and video a complete mess. How old is WM Encoder 9? About 5-6 yrs. old? Thanks for suggestions.
