I tried converting an mp3 file to wma with Audacity, but my version seems not to do that. I then brought the file into Vegas 6.0 and tried to render it to wma for WMP9. I got a msg that no template was available. What's that about? I'm pretty sure I've used Vegas or some tool to convert the mp3 to wma. These seem to be the only two that might do it.

I am using Vegas 7, but I doubt much has changed for wma encoding. When I select wma as the output type, I get a list of templates ranging from 5 kbps up to 160 kbps. Why these are missing on your system is a mystery.

What happens if you press the Custom button and try to create a new template ?

Oddly, it now works. Templates appear, and I am able to create a wma file. I think what might have happened is that a previous use of Vegas did not completely disappear when closed. When I tried bringing a new one up, my windows got frozen and I had to knock them down. All seems well now. The wma file works.
