Definetly need a reply to this thread.
I have yet to successfully encode/burn a vcd that plays on my napa vcd player. I was thinking of returning it, until the above post mentioned that some vcd's do work -
I recommend that you do a search on these forums about the choppy factor of the Napa player. I also have yet to make a vcd that doesnt have a significant amount of pauses and blockiness on my Napa. I heard that commercial vcd's play just fine though.

yea i have searched through tha forum and theres mixed opinions. i heard some were playing great and a few people were complaining that it really BLOWED.
-
Why r u lot using these Napa's anyway ? Why not buy standalone DVD players that do a better job 4 around the same price ?
-
Because many people (like me) buy them for the portability factor. To play at home I have an Apex Ad-660, I know it's not the best vcd player, but it gets the job done.

on contrar...
I think the Apex 660 DVD player is the BEST VCD player out there!
some of the sony $500.00 models cant read half of the cd'rs my Apex can that I bought for 99.00 dollars at circuit city..I love it!

YEEEEHAAAAA!
Someone finally with the same problem as me. Yes, Yes I too find that my homemade VCDs stutter on the NAPA player. Yes they play fine on my PC. However the NAPA player does actually work. My friend brought back some VCDs from Asia and they play fine on it.
I've spent weeks trying to solve this problem and created many nice coasters on my CD writer. I think though I may be getting to the bottom of it. I've been using the default VideoCD PAL settings using VCD galaxy.
I chap recently e-mailed me saying that these default templates though they will create nice mpgs for your PC will rarely work in a VCD player. He sent me a template which he reckons will do the job. I'll try it tonight. I'll let you know how I get on and hopefully, fingers crossed, we'll get a solution.

Mr Cake,
If the template works for you can you e-mail it to me? PLEASE! -
Apparently the issue with Napa players and stuttering video is the bitrate of the video .. and yes, if you had searched *and* read every post, you'd find the bitrate issue is addressed deep, deep, deep within threads. I know it's tedious to read a bunch of crap to get through to what you want, but that's what happens when newbies and others post lots of stuff when the questions have already been answered (tip: when you do a search, enter the question you'd have otherwise posted as a forum topic and see what it gets you).
And now, for my suggestion on the Napa DAV playback problem with choppy stuttering unplayable video on burned CD's (note all the keywords I just wrote there ... hopefully that will aid in future searches) ... Do not encode your standard VCD at the 1150kbps bitrate in the TMPGEnc VCD template. Kick it down slightly to 1123kbps. Even though this bitrate drop seems insignificant, apparently it makes a world of difference to Napa players.
I am encoding all my standard VCDs now at this bitrate and it looks incredibly good on all my standalone VCD capable players (I will even provide a 1 minute or 30 second NTSC sample to anyone if they want to see the results I get).
You may also want to look into if your Napa can handle the kind of media you're feeding it.
You may also want to pop in a standard pressed VCD into your computer and open up the main .DAT file in TMPGEnc tools and bring up the files in the Demultiplex window. Note the video bitrate of your pressed VCDs. It rarely exceeds 1123kbps! This is no doubt largely why they play perfectly in Napa players.

Well, well, well Mr AntnyMD
After your slightly patronising post I am pleased to announce that the bitrate has F*** all to do with the 'stuttery' video problem with napa players - that's right it doesn't work! At least not with PAL region 2 rips.
Tried various bitrates from 1000 all the way up to 1200 it made little perceptible difference.
So NA NA NANA NA to you

a) Although I apologize for patronizing forum readers, you too will grow tired of seeing the same questions posted repeatedly, and soon.
b) I speak from an NTSC region 1 perspective.
c) My suggestion not only included bitrate, but media. Did you try a different brand of compact disc?
d) Additionally, it could do with how the disc was authored. So many people here use Nero. However, Nero has been giving lots of problems lately. It's a possibility.
e) You could have gotten hold of a bad player, period. -
Try using BBmpeg to encode your VCD mpg's. TMPGEnc doesn't work with NAPA, (at least with the default VCD settings)but BBmpeg worked for me.
