  1. So I downloaded an anime, but the subs are in a language other than English. So, I decided to try my hand at translating them myself.
I extracted all the files using mkvextract .h264, .acc, .ass, and all the included fonts.
After that I edited the .ass in notepad, replacing a few lines, then I decided to test out what I had so far.
I muxed the .h264, .acc, .ass, and all fonts together using mkvmerge, but I couldn't get the subs to display.
The original file worked fine, even if I just mux all of the original files together without editing the subs wont display.
I tried to extract the files from the .mkv I made but only the .h264 and .acc are displayed. Its as if the .ass or fonts were never inserted.

I'm using MPC-HC to play the .mkv's and it's setup properly.

This is what I originally extracted:

I kinda just did the same thing and having a problem. The video quality of this encode was pretty bad so I got a better raw one, I extracted the .h264 and .aac streams from raw .mp4, then I went to the .mkv and extracted the attached fonts/.ass files, then I went to MKVmerge and added video/audio/subs and added attached fonts clicked mux and it comes out with a MKV file without any subs at all, in MPC-HC when I click navigate>subtitle language it just says "no subtitles"

    Anyidea what I/we doin' wrong?

I also tried adding the muxed mkv and .ass subtitles afterwards, the attached fonts get embeded in the mkv but for some reason them damn .ass files just won't go in...

    EDIT///

Hey, I fixed the problem. I was using the latest version of MKV Toolnix (4.2.0) and it wasn't working. I just downloaded mkvtoolnix-unicode-3.3.0 and it works now. I guess their new version has a bug or something.

Okay cool, I might have to check that out. I was using 4.2.0 too. I just decided to use xvid4psp to hard sub the subtitles, but if 3.3.0 works i wont have to.
