Here at work we've had the Panasonic AG-HMC150P for a few weeks. I've noticed that, sometimes when panning, the image makes a sudden "jump" left or right. What could be causing this? Is there some sort of image stabilization that's operating incorrectly? I haven't found anything from a glance through the menus and manual. I hope it's nothing defective with our camera, or a flaw with the model.

try turning off the Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS). if that corrects it, i might have the camera checked out by a tech. the OIS should not cause visible "jumps".

Thanks! Sorry, my lack of knowledge with technical terminology sometimes leaves me not knowing what a lot of buttons do! I turned the OIS off. I'll have to do a few tests, but I'll see tomorrow if that solved the problem.

Are you seeing this live in the monitor or from playback? If playback it may be due to your SD flash card. It may be unable to keep up with the transfer rate. AVCHD needs a level 4 to level 6 flash card (see your manual). Also flash cards slow with use.

We have two cards at the moment, both brand-new. They're PNY, 16GB Class 4. I'm not even recording at max settings, 720p, 30fps. I see the effect both while recording and in playback. I didn't know that the cards can slow with use, though. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Anyway, I'll do some tests tomorrow to see if the OIS being turned off fixed the issue.

It must be a camcorder setting or a defective unit. Call Panasonic support.
