by now all of you have heard about toyota's brake and unintended acceleration problems, check out this video of how a cop managed to stop a prius that was speeding out of control:

i would never buy a toyota, rather push a ford.

That cop is also an idiot. What's the deal with stupid cops and Toyotas?
The "N" on the gear shift stands for "NEUTRAL" -- use it, you Toyota-driving dumbasses.

When the transmission is disengaged, wheels can't spin from the accelerator. DUH!

perhaps the shifter got stuck in the "drive" position, i've never worked on a prius but my understanding is that the have electronic transmissions, specifically "continuously variable transmissions":

 http://prius.ecrostech.com/original/Understanding/ContinuouslyVariableTransmission.htm

it seems that the prius is designed to always be in gear, and if you have an electrical failure or a software glitch, as prius' are known to have, you won't be able to shift to "neutral" and doing a bit of searching turns up numerous complaints about shifting problems with prius'.
