Dell GX280 Optiplex Desktop PC -- single core
    Pentium 4 processor -- 2.8 ghz
    Windows XP - 32 bit
2 gigs of DDR2 RAM -- memory speed 533 Mhz
New Radeon 4550 video card with 500 MB of memory
VGA and HDMI outputs from the video card
    VLC media player

I have a dell optiplex computer. I was hoping to beef up the video capabilities. I purchased a new radeon 4550 video card(small form factor) and installed it just fine. However, I do not see nearly as much of a boost as I thought I would get.

I have a couple of large files(approximately 4 gigs for a 2 hour video...... formats of MKV, mp4, m2ts, etc.) and I tried to play those without success. It seems like there is too much data for my computer to keep up. The files will play but they will stutter or lock up for a couple of seconds.

I was under the impression that I would be able to play blu ray size files without any problem. However, it is not working out that way. I tried to overclock the video card and that helped slightly, but not much at all.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    TC

  2. Use a player that supports DXVA and/or has a multithreaded h.264 decoder. VLC has neither. Try MPCHC.

I installed the MPCHC and it works great!!! Thank you so much for the recommendation.

One problem though........ I am playing a widescreen video file. Underneath the image there is a line running accross the bottom....... it is in the black space below the video image and above the control bar. What is that and how do I make it go away?

    Thanks,

    TC
