I have vista home basic sp1. When I try to do a system restore I get the message that windows is shutting down. Then it says system restore is initializing. Then I get the BSOD and the computer restarts. A box pops up and tells me that system restore didn't run or is still running.
I've tried to start in safe mode. The drivers are loaded and I get a please wait message in the lower left corner. After a few minutes the pc restarts in normal mode.
I've tried different restore points and that doesn't work.
Any help would be appreciated....................Thanks

I would run a thorough virus scan. Your restore files may be corrupted. Malwarebytes is a good one to try. http://www.malwarebytes.org/
If that's not the problem, you may have to do a repair install or just reinstall the OS. Did you note the info on the BSOD? There should be some clues there as the the cause of the BSOD, usually near the bottom of the text.
And why do you need to do a restore? That may give some clues also. -
Thanks for the response. I downloaded iTunes and after that IE would start and stop and the pc seemed to have more problems than usual. I couldn't stay online. I uninstalled it but kept having problems.
I ran the windows memory diagnostic and found out I have bad ram. I guess I should start with that.
Thanks again.
