Hey guys!
My girlfriends laptop decided to delete its previous settings and desktop icons, IE Settings, etc, When I try and do a system restore I get the message saying "Your computer cannot be restored to the following point" No changes have been made etc. I get this message when trying to restore to any of the restore checkpoints listed.
Also (don't know if this could be related) when logging in the follow messages appear, "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network admin. Then the next one is, "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

Create a new user is the easiest for a corrupt profile
Repair System restore etc:
Go to www.download.com for Dial-A-Fix which does repairs and Superantispyware free under it's Preferences has a repair tab too Also get Malwarebytes AnitMalware while you are there.
I'd also want to run my Antivirus, Superantispyware free and Malwarebytes Anti malware (MBAM) to see if these problems are being caused by Malware. -
Try restoring in safe mode. No more: "Your computer cannot be restored......" for me.

Backup user files asap ... favs, email, ect
Enter safe mode, enter as administrator, head to user accounts and create new user account for the owner ... then delete user accounts which have issues and answer yes to remove users profile files ... reboot ... now turn off system restore ... then turn it back on and create new restore point.
Install malwarebytes and avast free if need be, update both ... if you have the os disc run sfc scannow from run, it will ask for the cd ... wait till done ... then run malwarebytes
Try this > Active@ Hard Disk Monitor ... if drive is below 75% its time to replace it otherwise theses problems will continue
Use macrium reflect and external hard drive to backup system ... it saves time -
you can also try hitting F8 when you boot and choose "last known configuration that worked". The reason I suggest that is that it only takes a couple of minutes to see if it will work. It's worked for me before

you can also try this: boot into safe mode and then try the system restore. I had an issue and system restore would not work on normal windows, I had to do it in safe mode to get it to work

Perhaps, this will indicate to you the importance of a disk image backup.
