  1. Need help or answer why my computer will not do a system restore? I know this is a Computer thread, but instead of opening another post/thread I was curious about sense I just use Nero Burning Rom for DVD backups (had Roxio on to but was told do not have two of the same programs on computer at same time) Can I do a Custom install on Nero sense I don't use any other Nero's programs... Photo's or Music

    Thanks a head of time,

    TC

  3. Unless the two programs directly conflict, and I'm pretty sure those two do not, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever you can't have two similar programs installed at the same time. Whoever told you that quite simply has no clue.

As for why you can't do a System Restore, with the complete and total lack of any useful diagnostic information supplied, my only guess would be that the other guy set it up.

I seem to recall that Nero and Roxio did have conflicts, but that was quite a long time ago. If I remember the problem was more with Roxio and the built in burning program on the operating system from MS. I would avoid packet writing programs as those did seem to cause interference to other burning programs. I think Nero may include one, probably as an option.

If you just need a burning program, ImgBurn is about the best, IMO. Much better than Nero.

For your system restore, make sure it's turned on for the drive you want to restore, then create a restore point. It should work from then on. It may have been turned off to increase hard drive space, but it's much better to just have a larger hard drive and keep restore turned on. Alternately, get a backup program like True Image or Ghost or similar and if you have a major system failure, it's a lot easier to get the system back up and running.

As an aside, I keep a shortcut of System Restore on my desktop, and it got me into the habit of using it frequently by setting points quickly for lots of little things. Saved my hide a couple of times.

For shrinking, I can relate. But for 1:1 DvD backups? What's wrong with Nero there? Honestly, am I misunderstanding or is there something some of us should know?
I hate VHS. I always did.

  7. What would you suggest besides Nero and I'm not joking..... DVD Shrink and Nero Burning Rom and my backups on DVD's are clear and audio is very good. Sometimes I get that reduntacy error, that is when I'm cutting out all the ads, previews, and titles. If I backup the entire disc.... It takes longer but I don't have any problems unless its with a Sony.

Seeing as none of the transcoding programs like DVDShrink do anything to the audio(they only "shrink" the video)...it might fall on deaf ears to recommend the best burner available... ImgBurn ...and it's free. It just burns. It's not a video/audio player, recorder, audio editor, video transcoder, photo editor, cover designer, video editor, drive tester, damaged file rescuer....it just burns.

Thanks for the info. can you tell me if I will need another software with ImgBurn so my backup will fit on the DVD disc? hech54, I'm just trying to learn.... I installed ImgBurn and put in one of my Live Concerts, all went well as far writing it to my hard drive, but it was to large to fit on my blank DVD. I screwed up somewhere, I just don't know where.

DVDShrink is also outdated....not totally useless....but outdated. The most preferred "free" method of backing up your DVDs is DVDFabDecrypter(there IS a free portion of that program - to get it to your hard drive)....then use DVDShrink to re-author or shrink if necessary....then ImgBurn to burn.
Someone WILL come along and start slagging on DVDShrink and recommend something ridiculously difficult to use....especially for a newbie....but....to each his own.

Thanks for the advice... I have just been playing with and trying to learn ImgBurn. I'm serious about DVDShrink and and Nero ...... my backups of the DVD's have been good. I hope when I learn ImgBurn it will even be better than Nero.
