  1. I am currently using VCDEasy. It seems like a good program, but are there better ones out there?

Nero 5.5 is pretty good at encodeing mpeg and avi. then burning to VCD.

  4. Just a correction. Nero is a terrible encoder. A great buning prog though. Use tmpgenc for encoding

VCDEasy usus a program called CDRDAO to burn cd's and can not be used with all cd-rw drives whereas NERO can be used for almost all drives and has alot of burning features. I wouldn't use nero as an mpeg encoder though because you can't customize the mpeg. CDRDAO is a good program if you're only burning cd images...

VCDEasy itself is a (S)VCD authoring software that is really a gui for other applications (e.g. VCDImager, CDRDAO, MJPEGTools, etc...)

I have had satisfactory results from PrimoDVD, Nero, and Ulead.

Of the three, I'd choose Primo for reliability and elegance of interface, but since authoring is not built-in, often you must prepare with another application.

Once you've authored your VIDEO_TS or data disc, you can burn in Primo as a data DVD and it tends to go at 2x even on media that other programs reject, and still the results are perfect.
