Im looking at buying the Samsung r610-64g laptop, which has an hdmi connector. I want to connect it to my Samsung ln4095 1080p hdtv.

Stupid question: if I connect these two products via hdmi, can I assume that I will see a pristine picture on my tv that looks identical to what I see on my computer screen? Same brightness and clarity?

  2. No, the TV should be brighter and clearer if set up right.

I was hoping that would be the case.....but just to clarify so I am understanding:

Lets say you have two video cards....a basic $100 256mb card and a top of the line $600 super video card. Both cards have hdmi outputs on them.

My question is.....will both cards yield the same results when connected to an hdtv?

If in the same family probably yes. Give us some model numbers.

The main difference will be game performance and maybe h.264 playback. If spec'd for Blu-Ray, it needs to handle h.264 and VC-1 at Blu-Ray bit rates.

    UPDATE:
I bought an hp laptop and connected to my receiver via hdmi, and the picture looks great. HOWEVER.......

I cant figure out how to get the sound to play through my tv speakers. I have connected via hdmi, which I know is supposed to carry both the sound and the video.

    Anyone have any advice?

  6. You probably need to configure your sound card for SPDIF output.

I think that's pretty much the same thing I was suggesting. I would try rebooting after making the change.

  11. What video card is it? Onboard audio?

I know you are talking about a laptop, but on desktop systems, you need to hook up the HDMI passthru cable from the soundcard to the videocard so the audio is routed into the single HDMI out

Found my problem......had to go into the special audio software that came with the computer and change it there. The general sound tab in the control panel did not work.
