Since taking my computer to the Applestore to solve a boot problem, my final cut 6.0.3 now will not open up unless the project is on the computer its self, not external drives. I cannot open anything in F.C. from my external drives. It was never a problem before. It starts to open. It says READING PROJECT and then stops at 17% every time. My G5 has 4 gigs of ram and plenty of drive space.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Thank you for the advice. What exactly do you mean by TRASH THE PREFERENCES? Do you mean, go into the FC preferences and reset them? My drives are not very full. For some reason, since my computer had some boot work done, I just can't open a FC project from an external drive. I can from the desktop. It wasn't a problem before I had the work done. Any more help you have would be great.
Thanks. -
Find the FCP pref file(s) in ~/Library/Preferences and throw them away.
Re-install FCP .
First, though, repair permissions using Disk Utility. Try launching again. If that doesn't work, "Repair Disk" in Disk Utility but you'll have to boot from your System CD/DVD and run it from there. -
I think I know what the problem is. I updated the system to 10.5.3 but did it without any external drives attached and turned on. Therefore, the F.C projects on those drives did not get up to speed with the update. I think that's why I am able to open any project in F.C on the desktop but can't open any previous projects on my external drives. I am going to see if the Apple Store can bring them up to speed for me somehow. What do you all think?
Thanks for the help. -
if by "up to speed" you mean "fix the permissions of the project files"
yes, but you can just as easily do this yourself.
Go get a copy of FCP Rescue for version 6, hook up the external HDs,
power them up, and then run FCP Rescue. This will restore to
default all the preferences, including the ones for the project file data,
and when you next launch and FCP project, it will ask you to re-define where
the render files are stored. Simply point to those, and all
relative links within the projects and permissions should be fixed."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
