  1. Hi im new.
when i encode an AVI file to become a VCD(using TMPGenc) it encodes the audio at 44100hz. When I try to play the VCD on my DVD player on my tv, the video is fine, but there is no sound. Then (on my tv dvd player) I see that you can only play audio at 48000hz and 96000hz, not at 44100hz. But no matter which encoder I use, they ALWAYS change the audio to 44100hz. Ive tried use Virtual DUB to seperate the audio as a WAV, then change the HZ to 48000, but then when I encode the video, it automatically goes back to 44100hz. Ive installed Nimo Codec Pack. I have tried different encoders. But they all give the same results. I have checked that DVD player IS compatible, and I have read user responses, saying that their VCD work fine, with no problem. I own a Pioneer DV-C302D.
    Please, Can somebody help me?

VCD with 44khz audio should work fine on ALL VCD capabable dvd players and yours supports VCD.

You do get audio if you play the vcd on your computer?

  3. Oh I'm sorry, i wasnt aware that all VCD compatible dvd players play 44hz. And No , when i play the VCD on my computer, there is still no sound. But when i play the original AVI, there is sound(however the sound is a bit ahead of the video). But none the less, there is still sound when i play the original AVI. But when i play the encoded mpg.......i get no sound at all (whether its on the computer, or the TV)

  4. When you make the avi to mpeg do the following:

In virtualdub, save the audio of the AVI as a WAV
Now in TMPGenc, use the AVI as the video source and the WAV as the audio source. Use the VCD template.
For best compatability with players chose "Close GOPs" in the options and encode.

Now in Media Player the MPEG1 should play fine. If it does burn & if your player does standard VCDs ok then you are good to go.

  5. One more thing - in TMPGenc you can adjust the audio ("correct gap in milliseconds (msec)") - you can tweek this to get the sync right.

    Good luck.

  6. I have tried using Virtual DUb and seperating the audio as a WAV, then later encoding it as the audio source, but I still get the same results. Sorry I didnt mention this earlier.

  7. Well, it might be that your AVI has AC3 audio. Check the guides at left for how to convert the audio. Basically you have to rip it with VirtualDub to WAV as before, but then rename the wav to AC3 then convert that AC3 file to a real WAV file with AC3Decode. Then use that WAV as audio source and you should be alright.

  8. Im not sure I know what you mean. I tried looking for guides on how to convert it, but I couldnt find it.
From what I understood, i was supposed to use VirtualDUB and seperate the audio and save it as a WAV. Then get that file, and rename the file extension from .WAV to .AC3. After that, I think i was supposed to open up Ac3decode, and decode it as a normal WAV. But when I tried using AC3decode, it would begin to decode it, then it would say under status "Error threshold exceeded (13), aborted current frame." , then it would just freeze the whole program. And nothing would be accomplished. What do I do? Am i even going about this right?

  9. I'm not even sure that the audio on my AVI is AC3. When I play the AVI, there IS sound. But when I encode it as an MPG(VCD), there is no longer any sound.
But anyways, this is what shows up when I use "File information" in Virtual DUB(when loading the original AVI).
    Video Stream
    Decompressor: Divx MPEG4 low-motion

    Audio stream
    Compression: Fraunhofer IIS MPEG-Layer-3 Codec

  10. Hmmm...I really don't know...

Here's the links for AC3 to WAV though.

Hopefully one of those will solve the problem.
