  1. Whenever I try to join two files .avi using VBR audio in virtualdub, the audio always falls out of sync in the combined file. I have tried virtually everything I can think of to try to get it to stay in sync, but it just won't! Every guide I find is pretty much ancient (~5 years old) that pertains to keeping VBR in sync.

I have also tried VirtualDubMod, but that also fails to keep the audio in sync.

What can I do? I have had this problem for nearly two years... I wish I could find the guy that invented VBR and kick him in the balls...

So anyway, can anybody help me out? If anyone can find a solution for me, I will be so greatful that I will give them a virtual high five.

    Thanks!

Try running your AVI files through this - it'll create CBR audio for you. use Avi_Gain_Regular.bat

    Doesn´t Virtualdub 1.8 now support VBR MP3 ?
Maybe you update your version, and try it again.

If not: just save the soundfile, create a wavefile and then put the new wavefile into Virtualdub. There you can create CBR MP3 too. (Video direct streamcopy) - Muxing - and this worked for me (before Virtualdub handled VBR)

Compared to variable-sample-rate Vorbis or WMA,
the sync problems with VBR~MP3 are a cuddle toy.

  5. Wow.. that new version of virtualdub came out less than a week ago... the last time I checked for an update was something like 2 or 3 hours before that was put up . I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

I did a short test yesterday (cutting an avi with VBR audio in direct stream copy mode) and it worked for me, everything was in sync.

I use AVI Demux. Let it build a timemap when it prompts. Happily joins VBR audio avi files in copy mode without re-encoding and without sync problems.

Me too. Using VBR audio in MP3 is kind of like buying an HDTV in another shop because it is 1 dollar cheaper there. Yeah, you saved one dollar, wow, but was it really worth the extra time and fuel expense to go there to save one dollar? Using VBR barely saves any space over CBR and it just introduces potential problems. It was invented back in the days of low internet bandwidth and expensive storage costs and it gets more and more irrelevant each year. I'm also not real fond of those morons who sample their audio at 22 KHz either. I've read that some mobile phones require this, so I understand that, but in some cases I think the person doing it actually thinks "22 KHz samples will lead to half the file size of 44.1 KHz samples" and that is as false as it can be.
