trouble converting Quicktime mov. to avi (on windows XP)

So far have tried Rad video tools (which produced split screen distortion) and Boilsoft movie converter (whose image was OK but sound/vision synch was hopelessly out. Any gurus out there got a suggestion for other software that might work?

Rad Tools depend on which codecs you have installed. MOV to AVI works fine when I use XviD, which you can google for if you do not have it yet. It's one of those open source types. The best thing about it is that you can merge MOV files into one big AVI (instructions on how to do this are here) If you want to change frame rate, VirtualDub, I think, does the best job, but you can not open MOV files with it.
