    I downloaded a video in .mov format, and when I tried to convert it to mpeg in TMPGEnc, all I got was a white screen (the audio was present).

    I tried to watch the .mov in VLC player, and again I got a white screen with the audio.

    Drop the .mov into Gspot or MediaInfo and see if they show anything in the video. You may just have a corrupted file, especially if VLC doesn't play it.
