    Hello,

I have spent many hours these last few days trying to work out how to do the following and have almost given..please help!!! The world of DVD is truly huge!!!
Firstly I have the following files (taken from a DVD concert) saved to a folder on my harddrive as follows:

    VIDEO_TS (3 in total)

VTS_01_0 and up to VTS_01_4 (6 in total)

I understand that these (VTS_*_*) are either 'back-up files of IFO' & DVD Movie/DVD Movie IFO files.
The problem I have is that I want to increase volume and reduce noise on the audio on the video as its very low and hissy at present. Correct me if Im wrong but I believe I need to change files to Mpeg or AVI (with suitable software) then remove and replace the audio once I have edited it (I have an audio software so thats not a problem for me.
I have downloaded various free software programmes to convert the files but I'm not getting anywhere fast...
I have considered buying Sony Vegas Studio 6 + DVD but want to exhaust all avenues before spending my hard earned cash. I already have Nero 8 but it doesnt seem to be able to do what I want with regards to the above?
If any kind person would be able to give me a lead on what I should do please let me know as I'm loosing the will to live! I'm quite willing to by the Sony software if I need to and it would make my life easier.....
Any help would be very much appreciated as I'm on the verge of using tranquilisers

    VOB to MPG: VOB2MPG
Demux VOBs to audio and video: ReJig
Audio editing (such as filter out hiss, increase volume): Audacity

Then you have to put it all back together - most DVD authoring app can do that, like GfD.

I am trying to re-code the Video_TS files I have using VOB2MPG to MPEG. When I click the start button on this programme nothing happens except window appears saying 0 files converted.
Not sure if this is correct but I tried renaming the extensions as vob and still no joy. Any ideas?

    Many thanks.

Take a look in the WHAT IS : DVD section. It shows how each file type is used. You need the actual vob files, these are what contain the audio and video.

AFAIK, there are no VIDEO_TS files - there may be files in a VIDEO_TS folder. Among those, you'll find .VOB files. These are what VOB2MPG extracts the mpg out of. I think it needs the corresponding .IFO as well.
Changing extensions of iles usually is no good. It can possibly fool an unsuspecting application into accepting something it's not designed for.

  7. If you're still just trying to extract the audio for editing, you don't need to convert the VOBs to MPG anyway. You just need to demux. I use PGCDemux. That'll give you an M2V (video, if you check the video box before starting), the AC3 audio (if that's what it is), a celltimes.txt (chapters), and a SUP file if there are any subtitles. Convert your audio to WAV audio (BeSweet, HeadAC3he), get rid of your hiss and boost your volume (some WAV editor like Audacity), convert it back to AC3 (some audio conversion program like Aften, SoftEncode (commercial), BeSweet, etc.), and remux (Muxman). Finally, put it back into the original DVD (VobBlanker). That's how I'd do it, anyway. But making an MPG along the way is a waste of time (if you're still just trying to edit the audio).
Correct me if Im wrong but I believe I need to change files to Mpeg or AVI
    OK, you're wrong.

Many thanks for everyones input! I eventually used Video Redo Plus which also allowed me to increase the volume on the video. One thing that it did though was to knock the audio and video sync out slightly when I combined the files together as one, individually they all were in perfect sync. As the video progresses the sync gets better until its not noticable. Why this is I dont understand but its acceptable for me so job done!!

Thanks to all concerned and I will take on board everyones comments when I have future projects in the pipeline!!
