I have no problem playing back AVIs that were created on my previous system (Win XP) but all the AVIs I create now (on Vista) only have sound when played back. I usually can tell this also by whether or not the AVI shows a thumbnail in explorer. The ones I create on Vista do not have a thumbnail. Furthermore, when they are launched in Windows Media Player, at bottom left the following appears: "Codecs acquired".

I originally thought it was a codec problem but the fact that its telling me the codecs were acquired makes me think there is nothing missing. Can anyone help out?

You have given us no detail about file formats, players used and what you are using to create AVI's now?

In the meantime, make sure you update DirectX Runtime in any case. This solved several of my issues with Vista. Windows Update has never found this.

thanks,,,i downloaded that and something called Vista Codecs Package....seems to have something to do with the Cineform HD codec that Vegas defaults to....but if i remember correctly, i was having same issue with Premiere....anyway, i'm exporting uncompressed AVI now and its fine.... so maybe it WAS missing a codec that was in the download. thanks again...i'll post back if there's still an issue.
