Question:
Why didn't you:
1. Rip Main Feature with MTR.
2. Open the rip with MpegStreamclip, play through to
determine the rip was good, and fix any timecode breaks?
3. Export out to avi using the Photo-JpegA Codec?
just curious?"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

When I'm not here, Where can I be found?

Howdy Terryj:

- FFmpegX to DivX3.avi( wavy ) and XVid.avi ( wavy )
I am very green here so FFmpegX was suggested to me
is what you suggested better for what i have to work with ?- iMacG5 OS X 10.3.9
Sorry - i do not know of photo- jpegA- Codec- ??
Can I do better than FFmpegX - might you suggest another software/
Cheers for the assist -
For conversion into Divx/xvid, I think you will find D-Vision3 more to your liking. Its user interface is well thought-out, making it much easier to get results that you'll be pleased with. And it's free, so you can't go too wrong.
(And no, I'm not related to the developers of D-Vision.) -
The photo jpegA codex terryj refers to is one of the compression codexs inbuilt into MPEGStreamClip. It has a whole string of them. You will see one chosen by default at the top of the screen that opens when who go into Export moder- he's suggested you go down the list and choose photojpegA. Then proceed to export. MPEGStreamClip is free, and download readily available.
You will also see that it has a number of frame sizes for video eg 720 (lines) x576 (lines). A quick way to see what size frame you have in your original : in Toast, DVD-Video mode, drag one of your unconverted files into it, and read off the top how many lines x lines it is. Just choose this when you're choosing your MPEGStreamClip compression setting. -
Thanks for the helpful nod terryx!
I would like you BattyRoy, to use MpegStreamclip to verify
your ripped .VOBs. Not knowing which verison of MTR you
are using ( 2.66, or 3.0r14), I want to rule out first any
problems due to Copyright protection schemes such
as Puppetlock, ArCCoss2 or 3, or Ripguard.
If the ripped ouput plays fine in MpegStreamclip,
(no wavy lines) then you can simply Fix Time Code Breaks
in the VOB stream, and then export it out to an .avi.
You didn't SPECIFY DIVX/XVID in your original posting.
I chose a codec that would be 90/10 : 90% high quality,
10% low compression. If you have a need for it,
once you've verified the ripped .VOB is intact,
you can then use VisualHub, D-Vision, or I believe HandBrake
to make your DIVX/XVIDs with no hassles.
But we need to verify the integrity of the ripped .VOBs first...."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
