Since the default is 2.0, but I want to see if my old RCA 5220P will play VCDs. That player requires VCD 1.0 or 1.1.

On another topic, who do you get VCD Easy to use Nero as the burner?

VCD 2.0 discs are backward compatible with VCD 1.1 players. Since VCD 1.0 was essentially just a karaoke disc (albeit with NTSC/NTSC Film support), I doubt you'd have a player that only plays 1.0 discs.

The VCD 1.1 standard provided for MPEG full-motion video in NTSC/PAL format, but no interactivity ... i.e., it just played the first video then the second and so on. VCD 2.0 added the interactivity of menus and entrypoints. However, nothing about the disc's file structure changed so drastically as to render older players obsolete.

When you put a 2.0 disc in any VCD capable player, turning off PBC ("playback control") effectively (but not permanently) makes the disc 1.1.

  4. Antnymd if I recall correctly oldfart13 here is having problems with his napa player maybe you can give him some advice seeing as i know you own the napa, as well as a terapin (1.1vcd)

I saw a post he made about trying to make vcd1.1 so it would play in his napa. He said his napa played 1.1 better than 2.0.
We were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked?

If you check the comments from people within the reviews of the RCA 5220P, some say that DVD player will play vcds, some say that it doesn't. Since it's an older player it may have had support for vcd 1.0/1.1 Karaoke discs. The manual says that the player only does music CDs and DVDs. I gave this player to a friend so if it does play vcds, I can sell him on the idea of getting a newer player that also plays SVCDs. Will probably only be able to convince him once I show him the Apex AD-1500 I'll be getting next week...

This is just a general recommendation, but if you (anyone) describes your playback device as "older" (for example, my very first DVD player was purchased right before the second generation of DVD players came out, so it played nothing but audio CDs and DVD's), I suggest you just junk it if you have the bucks ... Put it in the basement or the garage or sell it on eBay. New, inexpensive and flexible DVD players (like the Daewoo 3000N I just got) are like $75, plays DVD, audio CD, MP3, VCD, XVCD, SVCD, XSVCD and MPEGs burned as straight data (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2), Macrovision-free and region-selectable. Save yourself the headache of forcing older players to play compliant discs -- just put the thing out to pasture.

And again, if you have a machine that was made before VCD 2.0 was released, a) its not a DVD player at all (VCD 2.0 came out about five or six years before DVD), and b) buy a cheap new DVD player and be done with it.

Yes, the RCA was a 1st generation DVD player from that company. The latest models will play VCD, DVD, MP3, etc.

What happened to your spirit of experimentation? After all, without it, sites like this wouldn't exist.

I've been looking for the Daewoo decks in Canada but have come up short. And with the U.S. only a stone's throw away, the player better NOT say that it will play anything other than Region 1 on the box. Even the Apex units do that though we all know how modifiable they are.

Yeah, my friend's inheritance allowed him to retire REALLY early so now he needs more toys to play with. I'll suggest a model once I show him what the Apex can play...

    Simple.
If VCDeasy isn't able to create VCD1.x, you should try one of the other GUI's upon VCDimager (mine for instance : VCDwizard).
Once you've create the cue/bin of a VCD1.x (I recommend to create VCD1.1, because PAL only is supported from this version on), you still can use Nero to burn that cue/bin.
Give it a new try. You don't have to spend more mony just for PBC (VCD2.0) - unless you wanna have a reasson to do so.
