Turn auto-ripple off when adding the audio and the clips won't move. Auto-ripple is one of these features that is great when you need it, and really annoying when you don't. You get used to turning it on and off as required.
As for frames re-appearing - drag the clip by grabbing the clip itself, not the end-point. Remember that Vegas editing in non-destructive. If you trim a clip on the timeline (by splitting, for example), then drag the end of the clip out, you get everything back.
For DVDA, look at the properties for your title, and set the end action to return to the menu.
