  1. Hi-
I upgraded my NEC 2500A firmware (to dual layer support) months ago ,and burned one Verbatim DVD+R DL (MKM 001) at that time. Now I am trying to do the same thing, and Nero does not even recognize the blank (*any* of the new blanks) as a DVD, but rather a CD ("Sorry, your compilation cannot be written on this type of disc...").
    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Try burning with ImgBurn instead. ImgBurn is a freeware DVD burning program but despite that it is considered the absolute best DVD burning program around. Yes even better than the popular NERO program.

I have a NEC 6500A in my laptop which would not burn any DL media and the firmware
update never helped, which to say i was a little Pee'ed, then i ordered a Pioneer 111D USB,
and never looked back, i would never buy a NEC again after that!

Thanks. Actually, this morning I tried a different freeware burning program (I don't recall the name - it's on my desktop PC) and that program showed the media as "not writable". I don't understand why the first blank burned months ago, now none of the rest are working. I will try ImgBurn though.

NEVER use Nero to burn DVD DL media. Go to this website
    http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/pgcedit_guide/burning_with_pgcedit/burning_with...pgcedit_v2.htm
and scroll to the bottom for an explanation as to why you should NEVER use Nero for this. Please note that Nero had problems in the past with setting the layer break correct on DL media, which scared a lot of us from using it. Nobody seems to know if they ever fixed it or not, but the 32k gap issue the website refers to is still an issue with Nero.

I still use Instant Copy 7 for all my burning, (not 8). Never liked Nero. I have not found a burning program, free or pay, that gives me better resolution that IC 7. Very versital program also. I can easily cut our subtitles, foreign languages, etc. And set compression Manually. It shrinks and burns. No need for DVD Shrink. Just Rip and burn with IC7. Burns an image to multiple burners also. I have two DVRA111's and burn two disc's at a time.

I HAVE A NEC-3540A ALSO AND WITH NERO 6 ULTIMATE WILL NOT RECONIGIZE ANY 2.4 DUAL LAYERS DISC AND ALSO NOT MY MEMOREX DVD WRITER. NERO WILL ACCEPT THE VERBATIMS DISC AND WRITE AT 8X. I NOW USE imgburn AND NOW HAVE NO MORE PROBLEM WRITING DUAL LAYER DISC. GET IMGBURN AND SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.

  9. Don't know but I never had any issues with Nero. I have used and using it to burn single layer (Ritek/TY disks) and DL Verbatim disks. Only thing I make sure is to choose the minimum burning speed provided in drop down list.

    Cheers!

  10. I was able to burn to the DL Verbatim today with ImgBurn!
I found it a bit cumbersome setting it up to burn a video DVD, but it did the job. I just don't get why Nero worked months ago but now it doesn't...

    Thanks!
